WordSmith Poetry Jam

Come and experience the power of words and be blown away by the dynamism of passionate poets.
On Wednesday, February 24th, from 7:30-10:00 pm at Random Row Books (315 West Main Street, Charlottesville) WordSmith Poetry will be hosting its monthly poetry jam.
Audiences can expect a wide variety of artistic voices including poets, spoken word artists, open mic enthusiasts, musicians and vocalists.

Open mic sign up starts at 7pm. $5 Admission

Meet John “Survivor” Blake…

In just a few years; John “Survivor” Blake has gone from an overdose on heroin to 4x semifinalist at the *Nuyorican Poets’ Cafe* and winning slams in 7 cities nation-wide in 2006, trips in and out of psychiatric wards to *Urbana* *Grand Slam* Finalist at *The Bowery Poetry Club*, from burying his entire family (both parents, 8 siblings, and many friends) from AIDS, Hep C, Cancer, and drug addiction; to touring the nation and featuring at public schools, colleges, churches, and rehabilitation centers… Telling everyone, “The second you gave up on life is when things could have gotten better!”
“Survivor” is best known for somehow bringing beauty to the ugliest sides of life: addiction, death, heartache, and war; painted in such
a way; his words have, *IN JUST ONE YEAR*, spread from NYC to California, from stages with poets like Saul Williams… Get ready for the survivor, John Blake…He’s coming, and will *NOT BE DENIED!*
