Join the Charlottesville Photography Initiative for a Photo Walk of our very own C-Ville! On Saturday, March 24th, at 2pm, meet up at the CPI, then go on a walk that includes UVA grounds, Downtown, and a sunset shot, then light dinner fare.

The event is open to CPI supporters–(a great reason to join!).  See their website for more info.

Led by Will King and Ron Dressel, this Charlottesville Photography Initiative workshop is for photographers who want to learn more about lighting. Basic photography knowledge (aperture, shutter speed, ISO) is recommended, though no previous lighting experience is required.

The workshop presentation will cover:

  • Studio Lighting Equipment
  • Various modifiers and how they shape light
  • Lighting principles
  • Shaping, defining, and sculpting your subject with light
  • Setting a mood with light
  • Achieving accurate color
  • And camera settings

The presentation will be followed by Q&A and practice. Everyone will have an opportunity to shoot at each of the four lighting stations to practice various approaches and to use a variety of gear. Will and Ron will be working with everyone to teach their techniques, answer questions and offer suggestions.

The workshop will be held on July 23 from 10 AM – 5 PM at the Charlottesville Photography Initiative (300 West Main St., Suite 101b, Charlottesville, VA 22903).

Lunch and refreshments will be provided. At the end of the workshop, there will be a review, Q&A, and prizes and giveaways.

All lighting equipment will be provided. The only gear that they ask you to bring is a camera, lens, and memory cards. The images you shoot will be yours to keep.

The cost of the workshop is $200. This is limited to the first 40 photographers. Refunds will not be issued within 48 hours. A 100% refund will be issued within 30 days of the workshop and a 50% refund within 15 days.
