On Friday, April 13th, Founders Day, at 5:00 pm, Tom Tom will be launched from the steps of the McGuffey, the historic school house that has served as the central civic art institution for decades. The perfect spring day and the first outdoor concert of the season, there will be a block party, a street food fair, children’s activities, public art exhibition, and prominent local bands playing from the front steps and inside the studios.

The Spotlight Series returns to McGuffey Art Center in 2011 with a conversations series about Art in Public Spaces.
Four monthly discussions explore new ways to bring more art into public life and create a vital visual culture in a city rich in ideas and a tradition of innovation. All sessions are free and open to the public with a round-room format, focused on new ideas and approaches, and constructive cross-pollination.
The fourth of this series will be on Wednesday, May 18 from 7-9 PM at McGuffey to discuss “From Pocket Party to Fringe Festival.” What opportunities exist for wider artistic collaborations and celebrations in the public sphere?

As part of PCA‘s ongoing Law & The Arts series, artists of all genres are invited to join Richmond attorney Eric Perkins for this informative seminar covering topics related to business formation in the arts on Tuesday, April 19 from 6-8 PM at McGuffey Art Center.
Perkins is the founding owner of Perkins Law, PLLC, a business law firm in Richmond, Virginia. He specializes in business and non-profit start-ups and related contractual and compliance matters. Since earning his law degree from UVa in 1996, he has helped organize hundreds of corporations, limited liability companies, and other business entities and assisted clients in a variety of industries ranging from retail, real estate, professional services, hospitality, entertainment, to professional wrestling.
